Amrita University to launch Free Tuition

Amrita University is pioneering an online education initiative - Free All India Tuition Program, for all college students. The online program is supported by the Ministry of Human Resources Development s (MHRD) National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT) initiative. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, Vice-Chairman of Mata Amrithanandamayi Math, said the project will be announced on 58th birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) on September 27, at Amritapuri in Kollam. Initially, the pilot program will be launched in Kerala. Later, it will be extended to other States, he said. Amma, Chancellor of Amrita University, has been the inspiration and guide for various initiatives and programs in distance education at Amrita, since many students can benefit from a few good teachers, A release quoting him said today. An initial market survey conducted at colleges in Kerala found that students are highly interested in learning career opportunities in their respective fields and enhancing their soft skills. On that basis, to begin with, Amrita University has decided to start off free tuition program covering career awareness. Subsequently, other subjects will be added. The program will commence within a few weeks. Mr. Praveen Bist, Communications Manager, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab, said that the Free All India Tuition Program will be available to all college students free of cost. UNI DS GM SB RAI0005
