500th kid to be benefitted by Indore's Good Samaritan

In today's materialistic world where most people turn deaf ears to the piteous cries of the underprivileged, an Indore-based singer has done more than 300 stage shows in India and abroad over the past 11 years and thereby collected funds for cardiac surgeries of poor children.
Palak Muchhal (19) and her comedian younger brother Palash will add another feather in their cap tomorrow when the 500th beneficiary Sonam - the 22-month-old child of farmer Firoz living in Indore district's Sanwer - is operated on at an Indore hospital.
The estimated cost of the surgery is about Rs 1 lakh but that is hardly daunting for Palak who has collected Rs 2.06 crore so far.
''My first public performance was on an ordinary stage at Indore's Rajwada area for facilitating Lokesh's operation,'' Palak told UNI over telephone. As many as 508 kids are on her 'waiting list'.
In 2000, she received the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar and five years later she was honoured with the Rajiv Gandhi Award. Palak's name has entered both the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records.
She first came into prominence when she went from door to door in Indore collecting funds for assisting the kin of Indian Army officers and men who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil conflict.
