19 Congmen expelled for anti-party activities in Tamil Nadu Chennai | Thursday, Apr 14 2011 IST
A day after the polling, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee today expelled 19 leaders, including Karate Thiagarajan and Comedian S V Sekar for indulging in anti-party activities. In a statement here, TNCC President K V Thangkabalu said the Congressmen, some of them office bearers at various levels, were expelled for anti-party activities and bringing disrepute to the party. The expelled leaders have worked against the official party candidates, brought out advertisments showing the party in poor light and and acted in favour of the candidates of the opposition in the just concluded elections, he said. Those expelled included Councillors Mangalaraj, Sengai Sellappan and Santhi Sampandam and Mylapore Youth Congress President T Vijayasekar. The others were office bearers in Kancheepuram, Pattukottai, Erode and Tirupur, he said and asked partymen not to have any ties with the expelled leaders. Reacting sharply, Mr Thiagarajan and Mr Sekar said the TNCC President had no right to expel them from the party and they would take up the issue with party high command. -- (UNI) -- 14MS34.xml
