Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) continuing its active and effective anti-poaching operations as part of Coastal Security measures in the Andaman Sea region has once again apprehended nine Myanmarese poachers along with a boat off Sir Hugh Rose Island near Neil Island of the Islands. These poachers were apprehended in a coordinated multi-agency operation on March 17 by the INS Baratang of ANC. ''The Myanmary boat with the poachers was first sighted near the Island by the Naval detachment at Neil Island. Naval sailors chased the boat but the poachers sailed away to Sir Hugh Rose Island. ''The Naval detachment men informed the Andaman and Nicobar Command regarding the poaching activity,'' Lt Commander Mannu Virk Public Relations Officer of Andaman and Nicobar Command told UNI today. In addition, Neel Kamal a local resident of Neil Island sighted the suspicious boat and informed the local police about the same. The police approached Andaman Nicobar Command for necessary assistance in apprehension of the poachers. The Joint Operations Centre (Coastal Security), at the Headquarters Andaman and Nicobar Command directed INS Baratang to undertake the task. ''The warship on routine patrolling in the area, swiftly sailed towards Neil Island. Additionally, a Coast Guard maritime patrol aircraft was also directed to undertake aerial surveillance of the area; the aircraft sighted the Myanmarese boat and passed the info to INS Baratang,'' the PRO added.
