A city-based singer, Sunil Waghmare, today made it to the Guinness Book of World Records by singing continuously for last five days, as a tribute to his favourite legendary singer Mohammad Rafi. Sunil sung songs for 94 hours at a stretch without even winking at night during the four-day marathon singing event. He wanted to sing for 101 hours continuously, but today morning he became serious and doctors admitted him in a hospital.
He started singing on January 4 at 1000 hrs and since then he was singing without a break. He was paying homage to Rafi by saluting the melodious singer after completion of every hour. Last evening, he broke all the records of singing continuously in the event where contestants came from all over the country. In his endeavour, he was supported by Kalasagar, a local musical group. A team of doctors was observing him from time to time. He was preparing for this mega event since last six months.
Commenting on his effort, Sunil said, ''I am not here for making records or for Guinness Book involvement, but in the memory of great singer Mohammad Rafi.'' Four months ago, another music enthusiast, Rajesh Burbure, had made a record by singing continuously for 80 hours. With 94 hours of singing, Sunil has broken Rajesh's record.
