CWG wrestling: Anita, Alka win gold, Babita bags silver

Women grapplers Anita and Alka Tomar bagged gold medal in their respective categories to swell India's Commonwealth Games yellow metals tally to 19, here today.

Anita defeated Canadian M Buydens 4-1 in the freestyle 67kg category at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and made Indian shine on world stage once again.

Earlier, Alka clinched gold in 59kg freestyle category, after beating Canadian wrestler Tonya Verbeek 3-2 in a gruelling. The bronze went to Nigerian Tega Tosin Richard, who defeated England's Louisa Bernadette Salmon 5-0.

Unfortunately, Babita Kumari faltered in the 51kg final, going down 4-7 to Nigerian Ifeoma Christiana Nwoye and had to content with silver.

The bronze went to Canada's Jessica Macdonald, who outclassed South African grappler M Madi 8-0.
