An IIM Graduate E Sarathbabu, who shunned lucurative jobs and became an entrepreneur by starting his own food chain, today took a political plunge, when he joined the DMDK, led by Actor Vijayakanth.

Impressed by the actor's committment to work for the poor, the IIM-Ahemadabad graduate, E Sarathbabu joined the party in the presence of the actor at its headquarters here this evening.

The head of the Food King Catering Services, sprang a surprise, when he secured more than 15,000 votes as an independent from South Chennai in the May last Lok Sabha elections.

Corporate giant Ma Foi K Pandia Rajan, who is MDMK Election Wing Secretary was also present, when Sarathbabu joined the party with his mother.

He said the DMDK was the only party which is committed to the uplift of the poor and desired to bring about a social change. The young entrepreneur had hit the headlines when he turned down several high-profile jobs from MNCs and chose to start his own catering business.

On being inspired by his mother who had once sold idlis on the pavements of Chennai to educate him and his siblings, he took up catering business and giving employment to more than 2,000 people.

He said he was also impressed by DMDKs commitment to alleviate poverty as he had experienced poverty at his young age. Stating that about 37 per cent people live below poverty line in the country, he said poverty should be eliminated at any cost.
