Sri Chithira Thirunal award for Yesudas

Veteran singer K J Yesudas has been selected for the Sri Chithira Thirunal award for 2010, instituted by Sri Chithira Thirunal Trust, formed in memory of the former Maharaja of the erstwhile Travancore Sri Chithira Tirunal.

Announcing this award committee chairman K Jayakumar told mediapersons here today the committee comprising Chalachitra Academy chairman K R Mohanan and Dr Vani Nair selected the veteran singer for the award in recognition to his overall contribution to the music world.

The award, instituted in 2006, honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions in fields such as science, technology, literature, art, medicine, cinema and education.

Trust Chairman T Raveendran Thampi and Managing Trustee T Satheesh Kumar were also present at the press meet.

ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair, National Security Advisor MK Narayanan, agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan and Malayalam film actor Mohanal were the winners of the award in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively.
