Floral tributes paid to Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran

Floral tributes were paid to veteran Dalit leader Emmanuel Sekaran on the occasion of his 53rd death anniversary at his memorial at Paramakudi, here today. Tamil Nadu Minister for Slum Clearance and Accomodation Control Suba Thangavelan, accompanied by J Rithish, MP, paid homage at the memorial on behalf of State Government, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Founder-Leader Thol Thirumavalavan, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader G K Mani and a large number of party workers, also paid tributes. The daughters of Immanuel Sekaran, Sundari Prabhamani and Nehru Vasantharani and grand son Dhanush Kumar also paid homage at the memorial. Leaders of political parties like Congress, DMDK, Puthiya Tamilagam, BJP and representatives of various dalit organisations also participated in the 'guru pooja' rituals of the dalit leader. Besides, hundreds of dalit people thronged the memorial to pay their homage. Police had made tight security arrangements in and around the memorial and also at sensitive parts of the district in view of the death anniversary of Immanuel Sekaran. About 2,000 policemen derived from various units of Tamil Nadu Police in neighbouring districts were deployed for bandobust duty. Mobile patrol vehicles were also put on duty to monitor the movement of anti-social elements, besides anti-riot control vehicles such as Vajra and Varun were also stationed in vantage points in the district.
