Two persons were shot dead and 10 injured in a shootout following a clash between two groups over observing a fast at Thiruvidaicherry in this district last last night.

Police said, misunderstanding between a section of Muslims belonging to Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamad (TNTJ)and another belonging to Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) often led to clashes.

Since last evening, the two groups were quarrelling and when they assembled in the mosque late last night, they clashed and exchanged fire with country-made revolvers.
