In a bid to promote the Urdu language, literature and culture, the Punjab Government has decided to develop a Punjab Urdu Academy at Malerkotla on the pattern of Delhi Urdu Academy.

A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here this evening.

Taking part in the deliberations, the Chief Minister constituted a committee comprising Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala, noted personalities and academicians in the field of Urdu to give recommendations based on the model of Delhi Urdu Academy for the appointment of its Secretary and supporting staff to run the academy in a highly professional manner.

Mr Badal also directed the Principal Secretary Higher Education and Chairman Punjab Wakf Board to identify the suitable land of minimum four acres for establishing the state-of-the-art Urdu Academy at Malerkotla within a week.
