Forest officials arrest ten red sanders smugglers

Ten red sandars smugglers, including the kingpin Chalpati were arrested by the forest officials of Tirupati Division, according to Forest Range officer Ravi Shankar.
Talking to newspersons here, he said 34 red sanders logs were seized from their possession during the raids conducted at two forest ranges coming under Tirumala Wildlife Management Division (WLM) yesterday.
He said officials during the raid at Ballapalli forest range caught M Venkateswar alias Venki red handed for transporting illegally 25 red sander logs.
Three more smugglers Subramanyam, Siddaramaiah and M Bhaskara were arrested at Narabail area falling under Chemala forest range.
Three red sanders logs were seized and a vehicle was impounded, he added.
The officials arrested six members of a gang, including Chalapati, hailing from Yerravaripallem in Chittoor district and seized six logs from them at Bakarapet, also coming under Chemala forest range, Mr Shanker said.
The smugglers, hailing from Kadapa and Chittoor districts, would be produced before the court tomorrow, he added.
