HP Assembly pays tribute to Satyawati Parmar

Himachal Pradesh Assembly today paid tributes to late Satyawati Parmar, former member of the Rajya Sabha and the wife of first Himachal Chief Minister Y S Parmar on the first day of the Budget Session commenced here today.

Soon after Governor Urmila Singh's address to the Assembly, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was first to pay condolences to the leader, who passed away on February 23, 2010 here. She was 90.

Ms Parmar was born in April 10, 1920 at Khotghar in this district and started her political journey as Gram Sabha member in year 1934.

The Chief Minister said Ms Parmar held various key posts in the Congress and also devoted time for social work, particularly for the welfare of woman and lepers. She had remained HPCC Chief in 1964-69 and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1968. State Assembly Speaker Tulsi Ram, Opposition leader in the Assembly Vidya Stokes, Congress member from Nahan and son of late Y S Parmar, Kush Parmar, BJP president Khimi Ram, BJP member from Shimla Suresh Bhardwaj and BJP member from Rohru Khusi Ram Balnatah were among those who paid tributes to the leader in the House.

Later, the House observed a two-minute silence as mark of respect to the departed leader.
