VSM awarded to army officer from Manipur

Major Nungleppam Buddhimanta Singh of 15 Rajput Regiment, now posted in the Indian Military Academy, was conferred the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) during the Republic Day function yesterday. Major Singh, a resident of Uripok, had already been awarded the Sena Medal(2002) and Kirti Chakra(2008).

He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the year 2001 in the Indian Army and was posted in extremist dominated Nalbari District of Assam.

Major Singh conducted various counter-insurgency operations and as a result a good number of NDBF as well ULFA militants along with huge cache of arms and ammunition were captured. During the flood of 2007 in Lilong, Kyamgei and Canchipur area of Manipur, Mr Singh worked day in and day out to provide relief to the flood control activities and rescue operations.
