Surinder Singh Kairon cremated

Former Tarn Taran MP Surinder Singh Kairon died here last night following a massive cardiac arrest, family sources said today. According to family sources, Mr Kairon, 82, had returned after a regular evening walk when he suddenly collapsed. His cremation was held in the family's native Kairon village today in presence of a number of political leaders, including Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal who is also a close relative, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Avtar Singh Makkad and assembly speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon among others.
The deceased leader, also a three-time legislator, was son of former Punjab chief minister Pratap Singh Kairon and father of Adesh Pratap Kairon, the Punjab Food and Supply minister and son-in-law of Mr Badal. He was known as Majha stalwart for his active involvement with the development of the region, including Amritsar and Gurdaspur ditricts. Expressing profound grief on the occasion, Mr Badal prayed to Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss.
In a condolence message Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal recalled the contributions of Kairon in the progress of Majha region and his commitment for uplift of downtrodden and oppressed in the society. The INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala has also expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.
