Lok Sabha Speaker unveils portrait of Bhupendra Nath Basu

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today unveiled the portrait of Bhupendra Nath Basu at a simple function held in the Central Hall of Parliament House. The function was attended by the Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan, Members of Parliament, former Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.
Secretaries-General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha P D T Achary and Dr V K Agnihotri, respectively, also paid floral tributes.
The portrait of Bhupendra Nath Basu, made by the renowned artist Washim R Kapoor, has been donated by the Bhupendra Nath Basu Memorial Committee, Kolkata, West Bengal. Bhupendra Nath Basu was an outstanding leader of the freedom struggle, who made tremendous contribution in the development of progressive thought and the spirit of nationalism in the beginning of the 20th century. A great patriot, a valiant freedom fighter, erudite scholar and educationist, and a brilliant orator, late Shri Basu was a multi-faceted personality and his talent was reflected in his various vocations. On this occasion, the Lok Sabha secretariat also brought out a booklet containing the profile of Bhupendra Nath Basu, in Hindi and English, which was presented to the dignitaries at the function.
