The West Bengal Assembly was today adjourned after paying obituary reference to Congress MLA Rubi Noor, who passed away here on July 10.

Recalling Noor's contribution to the state politics, Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim said in her death West Bengal lost an astute politician who lived up to the expectations of the masses.

Earlier, on July 11, the body of Noor, sister of late Railway Minister Gani Khan Chowdhury, was brought to the Assembly premises where the Speaker, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and other members of the House offered floral tributes.

Her body was also taken to the State Congress office where a large number of party leaders and workers paid their homage to the departed soul.

The Congress MLA's body was finally taken to her ancestral house in Malda where the last rites were performed on July 12.

Noor, the MLA for Sujapur, was suffering from lung cancer and breathed her last at a Salt Lake nursing home after being admitted there on June 25. She was 65 and is survived by three daughters.
