NTRUHS convocation on Feb 18:VC

The 12th annual convocation of the Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) will be held at Sri Tummalapalli Vari Kshethrayya Kalakshetram here on February 18.
Informing this to the press here today, Vice-Chancellor A V Krishnam Raju said Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor N D Tiwari will preside. National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) President Prema Ramachandran will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.
Prof Krishnam raju said the university will confer honorary degrees of 'Doctor of Sciences' to noted neurosurgeon, Dr Sunkara Bala Parameswara Rao and Medical Education Former Director Chintala Raja Rama Mohan Reddy.
During 2006-07, 4,879 candidates have been awarded degrees of which 91 candidates would be given degrees in person.
The Vice-Chancellor said as many as 65 candidates would be given gold and silver medals besides cash prizes for meritorious performance.
On academic activities, Prof Raju said the university had provided financial assistance of Rs 1.19 lakh to 16 professional associations for organising seminars, conferences and workshops.
In addition, financial assistance to the tune of Rs 19,000 was granted to six faculty members who wanted to attend continuing medical education programmes.
For the first time in the history of the university, online-multi centre computer-based online application forms for admission into all undergraduate courses was introduced last year, he said.
The 'NTRMEDNET' provided academic material such as international and national journals in digital format to the students and faculty of affiliated colleges.
Prof Raju said an inter-collegiate cultural festival was also held simultaneously for the first time as a part of the Golden Jubilee of the Rangaraya Medical College.
