Former Cabinet Secretary P K Kaul cremated

Former Cabinet Secretary and Indian Ambassador to United States of America (USA) P K Kaul was cremated here today.

Ailing Kaul who was 78 died in hospital on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Before becoming Cabinet Secretary a 1951-batch IAS officer, Kaul also served as Commerce Secretary, Finance Secretary and Defence Secretary.

He was served as India's Ambassador to the United States from 1986-1989.

While he was the Finance Secretary, Kaul played a key role in formulation of policies for import and export promotion, development of free trade zones and infrastructure for movement and financing of exports.

He also served as alternate Governor to International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

After serving in Uttar Pradesh (UP) for 15 years, Kaul moved to Centre and served as Secretary of three Ministries and was also holding additional charge as Chairman of the State Trading Corporation (STC).

Kaul, who had a Masters degree in public administration from Harvard, was also a member of the Atomic Energy Commission and the Space Commission. (ANI)
