Nalinidhar Bhattacharya receives Assam Valley Literary Award

Eminent poet and litterateur Nalinidhar Bhattacharya has been chosen for the prestigious Assam Valley Literary Award for 2006.

The Award would be formally presented in March next year, a press release said here today. Instituted in 1990, the Award is given away by the Williamson Magor Trust.

A poet of repute, Mr Bhattacharya is also known for his literary essays. He has a number of publications to his credit, including five anthologies of Assamese poetry and as many collections of his literary essays.

Besides the Assam Valley Literary Award, Mr Bhattacharya had been honoured previously with other awards including Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002, Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Award, Soviet Desh Nehru Award and Mrinalini Devi Award.
