Chhattisgarh has over 8,200 HIV positive patients and the situation is particularly alarming in state capital Raipur, says a health department report.

The report says out of the total 8,271 HIV cases, Raipur accounts for 4,028 cases, followed by Durg district with 1,022 cases and Bilaspur with 944.

The least affected district was the insurgency-hit tribal dominated Narayanpur district with only one patient, followed by Bijapur district with two patients.

The total number of HIV positive patients in the state were only 4,082 in early 2009. At that time, Raipur had 1,840 patients.
