India slammed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan over the remarks he made about the status of minorities in India during an event at Nankana Sahib on Saturday.

"The Pakistan Prime Ministers remarks are an egregious insult to all citizens of India. Pakistans Prime Minister has yet again demonstrated his lack of understanding about Indias secular polity and ethos," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

New Delhi further rebuked Khan, outlining how India had eminent leaders from minority communities occupying highest Constitutional posts, unlike 'naya' Pakistan.

"India has eminent leaders of all faiths who occupy its highest Constitutional and official positions. In contrast, Pakistani citizens of non-Islamic faith are barred from occupying high Constitutional offices. The minorities are often turned away from government bodies like the Economic Advisory Council of their Prime Minister, even in naya Pakistan'," the statement put forth.

Rejecting the Pakistan Prime Minister's remarks, India further highlighted, "Pakistan would do well to focus on its domestic challenges and improve conditions of its citizens rather than try and divert attention."

India's retaliation comes in response to Khan opining how "Muslims feel like second-class citizens in India," while stating that Islamabad would uphold minority rights, unlike India.

"The Pakistan Prime Ministers latest attempts to play with minority sentiment in India will be rejected by the people of India," the MEA statement lastly put forth.

Khan's statements come in the wake of a Hindu temple, named Sham Sundar Shewa Mandli Temple, being vandalised in Pakistan's Sindh province, where miscreants set fire to holy books and idols leading to shock and fear amongst the minority. (ANI)
