Australian researchers have detected a tremendous 20 of the mysterious signals known as fast radio bursts, in western Australia, using a radio telescope, nearly doubled the number of signals detected worldwide since their discovery in 2007.

They also include the brightest and closest fast radio bursts ever detected, according to the team's research which has been published in the International Journal of Science "Nature", QNA reported. "We've also proved that fast radio bursts are coming from the other side of the Universe rather than from our own galactic neighbourhood," said astrophysicist Ryan Shannon of Swinburne University of Technology.

Scientists have not found the cause of the fast radio bursts FRBs, or the galaxies that they come from them. However, they are extremely powerful, generating as much energy as hundreds of millions of Suns.

Fast radio bursts is a high-power, non-galactic radio pulse that lasts for only a few milliseconds. UNI XC JAL 1749
