Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today awarded Ghazi Amanullah Khan medal, which is highest civilain honor of Afghanistan. The Prime Minister was presented the medal soon after he jointly inaugurated the Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) in Herat (Afghanistan) with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, adding yet another chapter in the developmental cooperation of the two countries.

Earlier, Mr Modi arrived here to a red carpet welcome on a day-long visit to Afghanistan. This is the Prime Minister's second visit to the country in about six months and indicates the intensity of high-level engagement between the two countries.

Afghanistan is the first destination of Mr Modi's five-nation tour which would take him to Qatar, Switzerland, the US and Mexico.UNI XC-NY AE 1453
