Badminton Association of India (BAI) General Secretary Ajay Singhania heaped praises on PV Sindhu after the ace shuttler scripted history in Tokyo on Sunday.

Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals as she defeated China's He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

The BAI General Secretary said "champion" Sindhu showed why she is one of the best players in the world.

"What a player she has been! Sindhu showed once again why she's one of the best in the world. The way she played throughout the match was amazing to see. She is a champion," Singhania said in a statement.

Sindhu defeated Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15 in the bronze medal match that lasted for 52 minutes. Sindhu had earlier returned with a silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016.

"Winning two medals and that too back-to-back is a remarkable achievement. On behalf of the Badminton Association of India, I congratulate Sindhu on yet another milestone in her career as well as Indian Badminton successfully winning third consecutive medal at the Olympics," said Singhania.

"A big congratulations to the coaches as well as the support staffs as well as Ministry of Sports, Government of India and SAI for all their support," he added.

The 26-year-old Sindhu is now just the second Indian athlete to win two individual Olympic medals. Wrestler Sushil Kumar also has two medals as he returned with a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics 2008 and a silver at the London Olympics 2012. (ANI)
