As the chaos emerged over the SP delegation's visit to Sambhal, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Iqra Munawwar Hasan on Saturday said that she was stopped by the police from visiting the violence-affected district. She said that the party delegation wanted to make a correct analysis and find out who was responsible for the Sambhal incident.
The SP MP further informed that the 15-member delegation of the party was being stopped in different places. The party will raise the issue in the Parliament, Hasan added. "The delegation of the Samajwadi Party was going to Sambhal. We were trying to give the information regarding the Sambhal incident. We wanted to make a correct analysis and find out those who were responsible. We wanted to submit the information to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to demand action, but they have stopped us. They have restricted the visit till December 10. The delegation of the Samajwadi Party consisting of 15 people is being stopped at different places. How can they stop us from going to Sambhal under a democracy? We will also raise this issue in the Parliament," SP MP Iqra Munawwar told reporters after being stopped by the police. This comes after the Uttar Pradesh Police allegedly tried to stop several SP leaders including MLAs and MPs from visiting Sambhal. UP SP President Shyam Lal Pal on Saturday was put under house arrest, the official handle of SP claimed on X. The SP condemned the actions of the UP Police while accusing the state government of "disgracing" the Constitution and democracy. "Yogi government is afraid of SP delegation! On the orders of the government, the police prevented the honourable state president Shri Shyam Lal Pal ji from coming to Sambhal and put him under house arrest. The BJP government is tearing apart the constitution and democracy. Highly condemnable," the Samajwadi Party posted on X. Earlier in the day, SP leader Mata Prasad Pandey was also stopped by the police from visiting Sambhal amid heavy police deployment outside his residence. SP leaders Zia Ur Rehman Barq and Harendra Malik were also stopped by the UP police while they were travelling to Sambhal from New Delhi. Tensions in Sambhal had been simmering since the local court ordered a survey of the mosque on November 19. Opposing the court-ordered survey of the Jama Masjid people clashed with police, resulting in the deaths of four persons. The survey followed a petition filed by some persons in the local court, claiming that the site of the mosque was previously a Harihar temple. (ANI)
