A driver attached to an excise and taxation inspector posted in Gurugram was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000, a senior police officer said.

The accused was identified as Sandeep Kumar, a driver of the Excise and Taxation Inspector (enforcement wing), and was arrested by a team of Haryana State Vigilance Bureau.

"Kumar was held on a complaint by a supervisor of a private firm located in Palam Vihar area of Gurugram," Bureau's Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dharamveer said.

He said Jagroop Singh, supervisor of a packing and shipping company, complained that Kumar was forcing the officials of the company to fix an amount for him to ply its vehicles without any "hindrance".

He said vehicles belonging to his firm have all the required documents and that he was paying all taxes as per law.

"We are questioning the accused and he will be produced before the court on Saturday," the DSP said.
