The Changing Dynamics of the Digital Gaming Industry

The gaming industry is on a fast speed road to success and growth. The year 2018 has seen fantastic growth in almost all segments of games, right from games like rummy online to social games like PUBG. How is this industry growing? It lives on data, trends and statistics.

Gaming was previously limited to a very niche segment. But with mobile phones managing to play just about any game, it has opened doors to a vast number of consumers out there. Here are some of the trends that

are changing the digital gaming world, taking it to completely new heights.

Platforms Matter

One of the important things in game development is the platform for which it has been built. Even though games are just about played on every kind of device, what are the devices or platforms that are preferred by the gamers today. Here’s a look at the top gaming platforms for this year.

- For Smartphones and Tablets: 38%
- For PS4/PRO: 7%
- For VR Headsets: 24%
- For Xbox one/ Scorpio: 22%
- For Web Browse: 13%
- For Linux: 7%
- For AR Headsets: 5%
For Apple TV: 4%
- For Nintendo Switch: 3%

Gamers are still on their PCs and smartphones as compared to Xbox or other gaming consoles. The technological ability to support high graphic games over smartphones and desktops have made the gamers enjoy their favorites on these devices.

Who are these gamers?

Previously, gamers where a niche. Today, just about everybody is a gamer, including you and me. As per reports, around 75% of the Indian population can be said to be gamers. While the average age of male players is 33 years, females tap into the gaming world at around 37 years.

The gamers also come with choices. While around 15% male gamers like competition and challenge as the segment of gameplay, there is only 11% who play for destruction. When you play rummy online real money, or games backed with thrill, you are motivated to work more on your strategies and push your brain muscles.

On the other hand, if you talk about female gamers, then around 15% are motivated to play games because of its design while 17% play for fantasy.

Even though male and female gamers, pick games for completely different reasons, their engagement with the game is what keeps them coming back for more.

n What Games Have Made to the Top?

The game genres are different, but there are some games that are loved by just about everybody. The most popular games from around the world is League of Legends, closely followed by PUBG capturing 52% of the core PC gamers.

The other game that is loved by PC enthusiasts is Fortnite with 30%, completely committed to the game. One segment that has the highest number of fans crossing over 80 billion is card games. Popular games like rummy, teen patti and poker are among the popular choices in the country. There’re games like World of Warcraft that is also popularly liked by the gamers alike.

Mobile Gaming

The biggest segments in the gaming zone are mobiles. The revenue coming from mobile gaming applications are all set to rise to 45% by 2020. The US ranked at the first place for mobile game sessions while India came second, accounting for over 25% of the overall gaming sessions of the country. The tablet gaming revenue accounted for more than 8 billion dollars and is expected to increase by 43% by 2021.

Online Gaming

One of the concepts of online gaming is taking subscription for enjoying it. However, what the players today prefer is just registering and playing a game online. As per recent data, around 42% of players don’t have any subscription to the different gaming platforms and services. PlayStation has just around 30% subscription for players in India. Xbox also has a similar number of players taking the subscription. What has seen a remarkable growth is the digital games that can be played online, with just a simple registration.

eSports brings in new excitement

eSports is one segment that became immensely popular in the gaming zone. This segment generated a total market revenue of over $800 billion, with Asia commanding the biggest share in the revenue distribution. eSports is not only popular but also a highly demanding and growing segment of the gaming industry, across the world.

Console Gaming is going strong

The micro transaction console market that has been popular for a while and is still a favorite among gamers. The web based gaming world has around 12% of the industry’s worth and captures some of the biggest names of the gaming world. However, when we look at the physical console games, it covers a share of over 67% of the industry’s global worth.

It’s quite prominent from all the different numbers in front of us that the gaming industry is showing remarkable growth. This industry packs skills, challenge and fun element that is turning the dynamics of the entertainment industry. The coming years can expect the bigger and larger segments of the gaming world giving us a completely new range of games and challenges.
