Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday criticised the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government for sabotaging the rights of poor and Dalits in the state, by denying them basic facilities. Dr Cheema criticised the government for not releasing the 2015-16 and 2016-17 Post Matric Scholarship for the underprivileged students.

He said every section of the society is suffering due to the anti-people policies of the state government, leading to frequent dharnas and demonstrations. Criticising Akali leader and Central Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal for doing nothing for the state, Dr Cheema said, "Akali are equally responsible for the sorry state of affairs in Punjab." He further blamed the Centre for stalling the scholarship money and the state government for diverting it for other uses, instead of the welfare of marginalised students. With a pledge to raise his voice for the people of Punjab, Dr Cheema said that if necessary actions are not taken to improve the current circumstances in the state, then AAP will 'gherao' the government, both inside and outside the Vidhan Sabha.
