Prajnesh Gunneswaran ousts Sawat to enter quarters of Lizhou International Challenger

Winning 70 per cent points on first service and 63 per cent on second service, seventh seeded Prajnesh Gunneswaran of India entered the quarter-finals in the men's singles ousting Mohamed Safwat of Egypt in the 50,000 dollar Lizhou International Challenger in Guangyuan city, China on Wednesday. Safwat won 67 per cent points on first service and 43 per cent on second service. He saved three break points out of seven while Gunneswaran who unleashed four aces and committed one double fault, could not save two break points. He, however, won four out of seven break points while his rival won two out of two.

Gunneswaran will next face third seed Thomas Fabbiano of Italy in quarter-final round. Fabbiano defeated Ze Zhang of China by 6-4, 6-1.

Ramkumar Ramanathan of India, pairing with Alexsandr Nedovyesov of Ukraine, defeated Chinese pair of Xin Gao and Fajing Sun 6-7 (7), 6-4, 10-4 in the doubles pre-quarter-final round.

Ramanathan-Nedovyesov are now pitted against top seeded Cheng-Peng Hsieh (Taiei) and Christopher Rungkat (Indonesia). Fourth seeded Indian pair of N Sriram Balaji and Saketh Myneni will play Arjun Kadhe of India and Yaraslav Shyla of Belarus in doubles quarter-final.
