Grave negligence and inhuman angle of the staff of local government multispeciality came to light here, when a 20-year-old pregnant woman got no bed and delivered a baby in the hospital toilet at about 0300 hrs on Friday morning. When the kin of woman raised an alarm, hospital staffs rushed for help and took the newborn to nursery for care. Later, this incident brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Dharamvir Singh who assured proper inquiry and action against the erring staff. SDM Kamalpreet Kaur and Deputy Chief Medical Officer visited the hospital and met the patient and her kin. Ashok Kumar of local Harsola Basti said that he brought his wife Deepa to hospital at about 2030 hrs last night as she felt labour pains. However, the on-duty staff sent them back telling them that the delivery would take place after 15-20 days.
He took her home but at about 0200 hrs today she again started crying with pain. He tried to contact area Asha worker and hospital ambulance on mobile to rush his wife to hospital but both numbers did not respond, following which he rushed his wife to hospital on his motorcycle and reached there around 0230 hrs. No staff was there to attend so he rushed his wife to gynaecolgy ward where staff arrived but objected to his presence of being male. Surprisingly one female staffer even snubbed Ashok for bringing back the woman who was sent home few hours back. Finding no bed, his wife laid down on the floor. Meantime, his old mother and aunt reached hospital. The victim with their help went to toilet for urinating and half body of the baby came out of womb. Family women and attendants of other patients cried for help, following which the attending staff rushed and completed the delivery process. UNI XC DB JW1711
