The Supreme Court on Friday rejected petitions of Indian National Congress leaders, Kamal Nath and Sachin Pilot, alleging malfeasance in the upcoming Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Headed by Justice A K Sikri, the two-judge bench ruled, "We don't find any merit in the petitions. We accordingly dismiss these."The Congress leaders had sought a direction to the Election Commission to conduct the hustings in a ''transparent manner.''Mr Nath had approached the apex court on August 10 and sought a direction to the poll panel for guidelines to ensure that the upcoming assembly elections were conducted '' in an impartial manner.''A similar petition had also been filed by Mr Pilot.

Mr Kipal Sibal, senior lawyer appearing for Mr Nath, had contended that the voter list of Madhya Pradesh should be given in the text format. The voter list of five crore voters in the state, Mr Sibal submitted, was in the PDF format and extremely difficult to verify. It was very difficult to search a genuine voter, Mr Sibal argued. There were, he asserted, approximately 68 lakh bogus voters in MP. Vikas Singh, counsel for the EC, maintained that Mr Nath's petition regarding discrepancies in the voter list in Madhya Pradesh was based on false evidence.

He said that the list available on their website was tweaked and presented before the court. UNI XC RP1718
