Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, on Friday demanded to rename the Mumbai Central Station after Dr BR Ambedkar.
Speaking to ANI, Athawale said, "Since Baba Ambedkar had spent a good number of years in Mumbai, we are demanding that the Mumbai Central Station be named after him."
Athawale also said that he will soon meet Union Minister for Railways, Piyush Goyal and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the proposal.
He also cited examples of other places that have been named after Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Mumbai Airport and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station.
Earlier this year, the Western Railways had renamed the Elphinstone Road station to Prabhadevi. (ANI)
