Rs 4 lakh counterfeit currency seized, 5 held in Thane

Police seized counterfeit currency of Rs. 2000 denomination totaling Rs. 4 lakh and arrested five people in connection with this, at Bhiwandi taluka of the district on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap at Wadpe, and arrested the gang. However, these currency and how they were to dispose it is unknown. The investigation is on in the matter. The seizure included a total of 203 notes and also the car in which they travelled to Wadpe.

The accused are identified as Rehan Abbas Shaikh (22), Safad Mukhtar Ansari (19), Anees Iqbal Shaikh (31), Kishore Phular (25) and driver Rohit Singh, 23, police added.
