US Ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster called on Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki here as part of his first familiarisation tour to Northeast.
During the meeting, the chief minister explained the tourism potential of the state and other promising sectors like cultural diversity, industry, education and scope of natural resource based economic activities to the US envoy.
He stressed on the need of strengthening bilateral relationship between India and the US and sought their help in overall development of North-eastern states. Both of them had a detailed discussion on basic development issues of the state and region and harnessing the scope of US participation in the process.
The chief minister outlined the vision of his government for development of the state. Juster, however, made courtesy call to the Governor in Raj Bhawan where also the same issues were discussed and the Governor the envoy's sought attention.
The US envoy came here Wednesday on a two-day visit to Agartala. He visited the water palace of eastern part of India Neermahal at Melaghar, Tripura state museum and witnessed the beating retreat ceremony of BSF and BBG at Akhaura border.
Tripura government hosted a cultural programme to show-case the rich cultural events of the state. The world acclaimed Hojagiri dance of Reang tribe of Tripura was presented before Juster.
