Former Union minister and BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has slammed the Narendra Modi government and claimed that emergency like situation prevailed in the country.

However, rebel BJP MP Shatrughan Singh termed Yashwant Sinha as a new JP of the country in the present situation.

"The government indulged in atrocities against the people who are not toeing the lines of the wrong policies of the BJP government. The government agencies are being used to conduct raids on political opponents reminding the Emergency of 1975," Mr Sinha alleged.

Mr Sinha, who was attending a function on the birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narain here at the Samajwadi Party office on Thursday even hit out at the media saying that they too have turned biased in their attitude. But Samajwadi Party patriach Mulayam Singh Yadav did not attend the function even though BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha and SP president Akhilesh Yadav participated.

"The situation in the country is going bad to worst and only those people benefiting who are supporting the government and its wrong policies," he said.

Appreciating the Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for its initiative to fight against the BJP, Mr Sinha said, "a mahagathbandan during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls would give a result like 1977 when the entire opposition got united."However, without taking any names, he said that the opposition will have to fight against Duryodhan and Dusashan in the elections hence an united opposition will certain have an upper hand.

Talking about the much publicized Rafale fighter aircraft deal, he said that it is surprising that the country's defence minister has no information about it like the finance minister did not know about the demotisation decision of the BJP government.

" It is also surprising that our foreign minister tweet that she always wait from the PM word to allow her to accompany him but every time nothing happens," he said.

Giving his tribute to late JP, Mr Sinha said he has got opportunity to work with JP, former PM Chandrashekhar and even with Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"We have to take a vow today in this function to fight against the corrupt and inefficient government at the centre," he said.

BJP MP Shatrughan Singh in his brief speech, said that today is the anniversary of Sampurna Kranti hero Jai Prakash Narain and on this day Yashwant Sinha is being looked like JP by the people of the country.

He also lauded Akhilesh Yadav saying that he has turned out to become a good and efficient leader in this young age.

Earlier while talking to media, Mr Sinha said if Samajwadi Party wants, he could contest the coming Lok Sabha elections under its banner.

SP President Akhilesh Yadav too spoke on the occasion and hit out at the BJP and criticised it for anti people policies.

Mr Yadav also slammed the BJP government in UP and claimed that the people of the state are suffering due to misrule leading to deteriorating law and order situation.
