The Food Safety Cell under the Nagaland Department of Health and Family Welfare has stated that 'unafe food has proliferated into state's market, consequentially exposing the public to serious health hazards.' According to a press release issued by State Programme Officer (SPO) of the Food Safety Cell a food safety drive has been initiated as an urgent measure to ensure safe and healthy food in the market for public consumption. It informed that certain food items have been tested through proper scientific methods. "It may be stated that through the drives carried out, it is confirmed that unafe food has proliferated into our market consequentially exposing the public to serious health hazards," the release informed.

While making this disclosure, the Food Safety Cell stated that despite tough challenges faced during the drives, received strong support from various departments, organisations and individuals who demonstrated outstanding example by coming out voluntarily showing genuine concern and support towards the cause. While appealing for the concerted and unflinching commitment from all stakeholders towards making Nagaland food-safe state and not a dumping ground for adulterated food, the 'Food Safety Cell' appealed to all citizens to come together and extend support and cooperation as a community as their "concern and participation as consumers in this mission is the need of the hour. The situation calls for a sustainable and consistent comprehensive action plan involving all stakeholders wherein the public must come forward to play a major role," the release stated.

The department will do its best to ensure that types of food items available in the market are safe and healthy for human consumption, the release said. UNI AS AND
