The Peoples Democratic Party has sacked legislator Yasir Reshi as the party's district president for Bandipora, cracking the whip on leaders who publicly criticised PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
PDP chief spokesperson Rafi Ahmad Mir said the party has removed Mr Reshi as District President for Bandipore. "District President Baramulla, Irshad Rasool Kar, will look after the party affairs of Bandipore for the time being," he said on Thursday.
The action by the PDP high command against Mr Reshi, who is a member of Legislative Council (MLC), comes days after 21 PDP legislators met Ms Mufti and pledged their support to her.
Mr Reshi had openly criticised the PDP president, accusing her of nepotism. In a statement issued last week, he had expressed a desire to find an alternative to the traditional two-family system in Jammu and Kashmir. "I am in complete conformity with views expressed recently by my colleagues, to find an alternative to traditional two-family system. The state needs respite from the tried, tested and failed two-family power-sharing model," read the statement released by Mr Reshi on July 6.
These leaders expressed their displeasure with the party high command after BJP pulled out support from the coalition government, forcing Ms Mufti to resign as the Chief Minister of the state.
