The agitation by Shiv Sena workers from the district at the collector's office here on Thursday turned awry, when a long-horn she buffalo brought by agitators at the protest venue ran amok and knocked down several parked motorcycles in the premises of collectorate, spreading panic amongst agitators as well as police personnel deployed on 'bandobast' duty.

The Sena workers, led by district presidents Sanjay Pawar and Vijay Devne, gathered in front of collector's office here this evening to protest against the government's decision to provide maize, in place of wheat, on ration card, alleging that the government was comparing the people with beasts.

The agitators who had brought a long-horn she buffalo along with them at the venue for protest, took buffalo inside the collector's office premises, where on hearing the slogans by Sena workers she got scared and began running amok, creating panic amongst agitators and police personnel deployed on 'bandobast' duty.

In the melee that ensued, the buffalo knocked down several parked motorcycles in the premises of collectorate, damaging them.

Finally, the buffalo owner somehow led the beast out of the collector's office premises, brought her under control and calmed her down by feeding her fodder and oil-cake.
