The construction of the bridge over Feni river in Tripura is likely to be completed by November, 2019, Sankar Roy, MLA of Sabroom has said.

Mr Ray said, in the course of a conversation with UNI, the project would be completed one month before the estimated time, NHIDCL, the agency responsible for the construction of the bridge has informed him.

He said, 12 pillars are to be constructed for the Feni Bridge in Sabroom which lies in southern Tripura bordering Bangladesh. The MLA informed that the construction work was going on in full swing and Chief Minister Biplab kumar Deb was keeping close track of the developments.

"The chief minister inspected the construction work of the bridge a few days ago and gave directions to finish the project as early as possible," Ray told this correspondent.

Feni bridge will allow India carry heavy goods and machinery to and from Tripura and the other north-east states via Bangladesh's Chittagong International port. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had laid the foundation of the bridge during Mr Modi's visit to Dhaka in June 2015.

Apart from easing transportation between northeastern states and the rest of India, it is anticipated that the bridge along with NH-08(Old NH-44) will also boost the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India.
