The Buffalo Research Centre of national acclaim would soon start operation at Booh village, situated in Tarn Taran district, to encourage the farmers to opt for animal husbandry and dairy professions.
This was stated by Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu while presiding over a meeting held to review the progress for the setting up of this buffalo research centre. The meeting was attended MLAs of Tarn Taran district besides Additional Chief Secretary of the department Dr G Vajralingam.
Mr Sidhu said that the Punjab government, in its maiden budget, has earmarked Rs 20 crores for the establishment of buffalo research centre at Patti in Tarn Taran district. During the meeting, it was decided that buffalo research centre would start its operation from Krishi Vigyan Kandra (KVK) at Booh village. This centre would be affiliated with the Guru Angad Dev veterinary and Animal Sciences University. To enable this centre to conduct research, Punjab government would be provided 5 to 10 acre of additional land. Besides cultivation of green fodder, a high tech, state of the art 'Demonstration centre' would be set up on this land. Farmers would be imparted training on the animal husbandry and dairy farming with latest available technology.
The Minister said that he would visit the village Booh on June 25 to take stock of the preparedness of the department to start this Buffalo Research Centre. Punjab government and Guru Anagad Dev University would jointly arrange the gathering of progressive farmers at Booh village, wherein progressive farmers would share their experiences and techniques with the other farmers who wish to opt for animal husbandry and dairy farming profession on scientific terms.
He said that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on many occasions has expressed his vision for the holistic development of the border area. He said that Chief Minister himself announced the setting up of Buffalo Research Center at Tarn Taran district. "Complying with the announcement made by the Chief Minister, Animal Husbandry Department is all set to start Buffalo Research Centre at Booh village", he added.
