Ex-Congress MLA's nephew attacked at Baddi

Tension gripped the industrial township Baddi after some unidentified armed persons made assaulted nephew of Doon constituency former legislator and his associates at Dawat Chowk late Wednesday night.

According to the reports, the assailants who were stated to be around dozen in numbers, made the assault when Sohan Singh who happened to be nephew of former Congress MLA of Doon assembly segment Ram Kumar Chaudhary along with his friends Suraj Parkash, Bhadur Singh and Shashi Parkash was going for dinner at Dawat restaurant.

The seriously injured persons were immediately rushed to Nalagarh Civil hospital where doctors referred Shashi Parkash and Suraj Parkash to Medical College Chandigarh. Sohan Singh and Bhadur Singh were discharged after treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident took place at around 2220 hrs when all four were going to take dinner. As soon as they reached at Dawat Chowk, a group of 12-13 persons armed with iron rods and sticks suddenly made an assault on them without any provocation, leaving them greviously injured. The miscreants after committing the offence also damaged the private vehicles of Sohan Singh and others and fled away from the site.

Shortly, large number of supporters of former MLA assembled on the spot and started raising slogans against the failure of the police in maintaining the law and order in the town. Earlier, the cousin of former MLA Ram Kumar was murdered in the town last month and cases of assault on an advocate and others had come to light.

Baddi Municipal Committee Chairman Madan Chaudhary said large scale smuggling of liquor and drugs from neighboring states and open illegal sale of liquor on even grocery shops in and around the town leading to such incidents.

Former MLA Ram Kumar said "we have been constantly been taking up the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the town with the authorities but it appears our pleas falling on deaf ears".

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under section 307, 147,148,149 and 427 of IPC.
