As many as 10 fishermen remain missing, even as six were rescued after a squall overturned their trawler last night in the mid-sea. Flouting warnings issued by the local administration, about 10 trawlers from Kakdwip in South 24 Pargana district went out to fish in the mid-sea, yesterday. However, before the fishermen could begin catching fish, violent winds flipped over one of the 10 trawlers named 'F B Kanyamata' of Sitarampur located in Patharpratima, local sources and police informed .

The fishermen in the accompanying trawlers managed to rescue six, but could not recover the other 10 from the turbulent waters, sources said.

The mishap was immediately reported to the local administration. Bijoy Maiti, secretary of Kakdavip Fisherman Welfare Association, said, "DM Marine and Kakdip SDO have been given a list of the names of the vessels that went out in the sea despite the prohibitory order issued by the administration.

"An FIR has also been lodged in the local police station against the owner of the capsized trawler 'Kanyamata'."Search was on to find the missing fishermen, and the local disaster management team and several trawlers were deployed in the operation, Das informed.

All the 10 missing fishermen were residents of Harwood Point Police station area.
