India amassed 248 losing one wicket at Tea against Afghanistan on the opening day of the historic one-off test match that began at M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

At Tea, which was taken 15 minutes early after rain stopped the play, Murali Vijay (94), just six short of his century, and K L Rahul (33) were at the crease at Tea. The duo have added 80 runs for the unbroken second wicket in 16.1 overs.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan smashed a 96-ball 107 and also became the first Indian to score a century before lunch on the opening day of a test match. He was the sixth in the world to achieve that feat. He was dismissed just after lunch caught by Maohammad Nabi off the bowling of Yamin Ahamedzi.

India had made 158 for no loss at lunch with Dhawan unbeaten on 104 and Vijay 41. Dhawan made 90 per cent of his scoring through boundaries as he struck 19 fours and three sixes and added 168 runs in just 28.4 overs for the opening wicket with Vijay.

Afghanistan bowlers were left wanting as they could not adapt to the longer version of the game. They seemed to be in the T-20 mood still as they tended to bowl full most of the time and were punished by the Indian batsmen with ease. IPL hero Rashid Khan was also ineffective and probed to be the most expensive bowler conceding 89 runs in 14 overs he has bowled so far.

Brief Scores: India I Innings 248/1 (Shikhar Dhawan 107, Murali Vijay 94 batting, K L Rahul 33 batting) vs Afghanistan.
