Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday came down heavily on its ally BJP for raking up the issue of the Ram temple in Ayodhya when the elections are round the corner and declared that they would construct the temple there only. Addressing a public meeting tonight at Ulhasnagar township after inaugurating the office of the Kalyan MP Dr Srikant Shinde, he asked the partymen to use the same strength that they used for coming to power in Karnataka for the construction of the temple.
"If you really have strength, then construct the temple and show," he challenged. "Only when the elections are round the corner, they see the temple," he said in his attack on BJP.
The current situation indicated that there was no alternative than the Shiv Sena, he said.
"If the government imposes the development plan which is of no use to the citizens, then we will destroy it," he warned and said, "We did the same in case of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.""If you are levying one tax, why not not one single rate," the Sena chief questioned while pointing out to the hike in rate of petrol. When the price of petrol was low in the international market, the government had looted the citizens.
Mr Thackeray claimed that the BJP resorted to all sorts of tricks to come to power.
Commenting on outcome of election results of the state assembly in Karnataka, the Sena chief observed that that the party which has the maximum number of MLAs should be given preference and said there was no need to rely on the Governor.
"The Governor was the worker of the Jana Sangh and BJP, hence what you can expect from him. If you throttle the democracy in this manner then do not hold elections in the country at all. You elect those whom you have in mind. Appoint Chief Minister from Delhi itself," Mr Thackeray said.
He said that the time has now come to break such kind of democracy (Lokshai) and bring in real Shiv Shai.
The Sena chief exuded confidence that in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, only the "saffron" will flutter.
Referring to the Palghar Lok Sabha by-election, he said that the BJP has realised that it was facing a defeat in the constituency. "They may have money power, but we have the blessings of the masses," he reminded.
