The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) scripted a resounding victory while the BJP emerged as the main challenger to the ruling party in most districts.
The Left and the Congress were virtually decimated in all three tiers of the Panchayat structure.
TMC has won 19,394 (68%) of the 28,456 gram panchayat seats. It won 1842 (88.34%) of the 2,085 panchayat samiti seats and 62 of the 63 zilla parishad seats declared till 2000 hours.
BJPmakes a mark in the former Maoist belt of Bengal. BJP's victories in Purulia, Jhargram, West Midnapore and Bankura districts accounted for nearly 40 per cent of the total seats that the party won across the state.
Out of the 780 gram panchayat seats in Jhargram where contests took place, BJP has won 321.
In Birbhum Panchayat Samity election, TMC has won 57 seats. Counting is on in remaining seats.
From 31 seats in Jaugram in Burdwan, TMC has won 18, BJP 8, CPM 4, AIFB 1, From Anchipuri in Bankura, TMC has won in 17, BJP 9 and independents 11, out of totoal of 38 seats here.
TMC is leading in most number of seats in Jalpaiguri. In Matihali Hat gram panchatyat of Jalpaiguri. TMC is leading in 15, BJP 12, CPI (M) 7, Congress 4 and independents 4 in 42 seats.
