Fake currency racket: With arrest on 1 more from Merrut, no of arrested now 3

With the arrest of one more person from Sardhana (Meerut) in connection with the fake currency racket which was busted by the Kangra police on May 8, the number of the persons arrested in this connection has gone up to three.

Kangra SSP Santosh Patial today told UNI that Kangra police arrested two residents of Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) identified as Hasim, 24, and Umran, 37, in connection with fake currency racket on May 8, on the identification of a girl and recovered Rs 2500 fake currency notes in Rs 100 denomination from them.

The SSP said that on their identification one more accused Irshad Malik of Sardhana Meerut was arrested from his residence yesterday during a raid by Kangra police. He was arrested under section 489B and 34 IPC and police started investigation. During interrogation Hasim and Umran had disclosed that Irshad Malik had supplied the fake currency notes to them, the SSP added.

Kangra police station SHO Kuldeep Raj Sharma said that Irshad Malik was produced before the local court here today and was remanded to police custody till May 21. He said that two other accused were also on police remand till May 19.

The SSP said that police investigation was in progress and Irshad Malik was being interrogated to look for other people involved in the racket. UNI XC DB SY1922
