A 55-year old labourer who was trapped inside a concrete pipeline was finally rescued after a seven-hour rpt seven-hour operation jointly conducted by the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and the Fire Brigade personnel.
Pranakrushna Muduli was trapped inside the pipeline while cleaning the pipeline of a pump house in the city when a staff member released water unknowingly and the labourer was pushed nearly 25 feet inside the concrete pipeline due to the force of water released from the pump house.
It was after a gruelling seven-hour-long rescue operation, which started at about 0830 hs, that the labourer could be rescued. He was taken to the S C B Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The rescue teams had to drill the concrete pipeline as the victim was stuck inside the narrow pipeline and unable to move.
He was provided with oxygen, water and glucose and asked not to panic during the rescue operation by the rescue team and doctor who was monitoring his health parameters at regular intervals.
As per the pumping station authorities, since the pipeline was only 2.5 feet in width, Pranakrushna could not come out and remained wedged inside the pipeline.
The authorities soon deployed the ODRAF and Fire Brigade officials who rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation by cutting the concrete pipeline to rescue the trapped pumping station labourer.
The incident took place at around 0830 hrs inside a concrete pipe of a pumping station near the State police signal headquarters at Lower Police Colony here this morning. Pranakrushna was cleaning the pipeline when the mishap occurred.
