Woman scholar attempts suicide in Hyd

A 25-year-old research scholar of the Hyderabad Central University has allegedly attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze in her hostel room on Wednesday.

The PhD student identified as Neetu Das, a native of Cuttack in Odisha, suffered burns when she allegedly set herself on fire might be due to depression, police said here. The woman received 50 per cent burn injuries and was shifted to the state-run Osmania General Hospital.

According to the university official, she had joined the PhD course in January this year and she was reportedly under depression over not being able to clear an entrance examination.
