Rae Bareli | Tuesday, Apr 17 2018 IST
Amid reports of local Congress MLC and MLA likely to join the BJP soon, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson and local MP Sonia Gandhi would be on a two-day visit to her constituency from Tuesday.

Ms Gandhi will join her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi in her constituency for a day on Wednesday.

The visit of the Gandhi family in Rae Bareli comes after the BJP announced a mega rally here on April 21 when an old Congress family comprising three brothers, including two legislators, would join the saffron party.

Official sources here on Tuesday said that Ms Gandhi will reach Rae Bareli on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday she, along with the Congress president, would hold a Janata Darshan at the Bhue Mau guest house.

Earlier, Ms Gandhi was slated to come here on February but could not due to health issues.

Kishori Lal Sharma, representative of Ms Gandhi, said that the Rae Bareli MP will reach here on Tuesday late evening and will return to New Delhi at 1500 hrs on Wednesday. Ms Gandhi is also expected to attend the district Monitoring committee meeting to review the development works in her constituency.

The Congress legislative council leader Dinesh Pratap Singh, his younger brother Harchandpur Congress MLA Rakesh Singh and their other brother Awadhesh Singh, chairman of the district Panchayat, have already announced parting ways from the Congress last week.

BJP was slated to organise a big rally on April 21 in Rae Bareli where BJP president Amit Shah and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath would be present.
